Lucas Vázquez links his future to Real Madrid. The 29-year-old right-winger had the option to leave for Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich or Napoli on a free transfer, but instead signs a new three-year deal, according to various Spanish media.

Vázquez has reached an agreement with Real Madrid after drawn-out negotiations. The club’s youth product got according to ASH initially offered three million euros net per year, exactly the same salary as stated in his current contract. The sports newspaper writes that Vázquez and the Royal ultimately ended up with a net salary of no less than five million euros. Vázquez will give up ten percent of his salary as long as the pandemic continues, as Real asks of all players to renew.

Last season, Vázquez had an undisputed starting place under the departed Zinedine Zidane, mostly as a right-back. Vázquez had to miss the end of the season, however, because he suffered a serious knee injury in El Clásico against Barcelona due to a hard tackle by Sergio Busquets. In total, Vázquez made 34 official appearances last year, in which he scored 2 goals and delivered 8 assists. In total, he has been on 240 official matches for Real since 2015 (26 goals and 54 assists).

The imminent arrival of Carlo Ancelotti as coach of Real Madrid has according to ASH played along in Vázquez’s decision to stay. Ancelotti, who is expected to come over from Everton, was also at the helm in Madrid between 2013 and 2015. Vázquez only made his debut shortly after the departure of the Italian coach for the club, but has recently been hearing enthusiastic stories about Ancelotti from teammates such as Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric.
