There are signs that Ajax is thinking about buying back Brian Brobbey, says Mike Verweij in the football podcast of The Telegraph. The nineteen-year-old striker will move to RB Leipzig at the end of the season, where he has signed a four-year contract. Verweij, Ajax watcher of The Telegraph, says in Kick-Off that Brobbey seems to be less and less satisfied with his move to RB Leipzig.
“Brobbey has signed with Leipzig for four years, so in principle it is gone”, Verweij begins. “Only Brobbey seems to be less and less satisfied that he has signed that contract. He will never say that himself, because he is a proud boy. But the trainer Nagelsmann has gone to Bayern Munich, the technical director (Markus Krösche, ed.) Has left after a conflict. He disagreed on the club’s vision of the future. So the two people who stood up for his arrival in Leipzig just left. Now that Mourinho has been appointed to AS Roma, chances are that Justin Kluivert will leave. Mourinho was already crazy about Kluivert when he was still playing at Ajax, so he will bring him back. ”
“Well, then you are there as Brobbey in the former East Germany. Not the most tolerant part of Germany, after all. I can imagine him thinking, well, I should have decided otherwise. I think that feeling is also alive at Ajax, so I asked whether it was a crazy thought to bring Brobbey back before he played in Leipzig for one minute ”, Verweij continues. Ajax coach Erik ten Hag said at the press conference on Friday in the run-up to the away match against Feyenoord that Brobbey ‘could stay as far as he is concerned’ and that he would consider it if it were an option.
“It has happened before, yes. But it will cost you a lot of money. Those Germans are not stupid, they also know what Mike is sketching. I think that at the moment Ajax does not want to spend that much money on a striker who also has to prove himself. You just have to wait and see how far he will get ”, says Valentijn Driessen. Verweij states that this is ‘relative’, if Ajax buys him back from RB Leipzig for five to ten million euros. Driessen: “That boy has a four-year contract. Then you are not going to get it back for five million euros. ”
“Unless the new policymakers at Leipzig say: ‘It was bought by our predecessors, what should we do with it? I’d rather have another striker ‘. That could be an opening. If Ajax then sells him for thirty to forty million euros in three or four years’ time, it might have been the best move ever ”, says Verweij. The Ajax watcher of The Telegraph is asked whether he came up with this himself or whether there are actually signals for this.
“There are signs that this is happening within the club, it is being considered. How realistic it is will become clear in the coming weeks. Leipzig is now going to shout very loudly that it is not for sale, because then the price will shoot up again. Then Brobbey starts shouting that he is just going to Leipzig. Behind the scenes we are really looking into what is possible ”, replies Verweij. “That Ajax is looking for a striker is because they are pretty sure that they will not continue with Danilo and Traoré. Then you need a striker, also because Huntelaar has left. ”
Verweij emphasizes that Brobbey already had enormous doubts between a longer stay at Ajax or a switch to RB Leipzig. “After that match against Lille, he told Overmars that he wanted to stay, his agent had to complete it. So he was very much in doubt. I hope he will play the roof over there. But when you go somewhere, a new competition, new environment, on yourself for the first time and there are no acquaintances, well. ”
