Aad de Mos has been deeply impressed by Ryan Gravenberch this season. The eighteen-year-old midfielder plays an important role at Ajax and, according to the former trainer, will eventually leave the house for a record amount. De Mos believes that the the Dutch International has many qualities. “Before he gets the ball, he knows what to do.”

Gravenberch developed into a regular basic player in the team of trainer Erik ten Hag. In the Champions League, he achieved great results in the group stage, while he later also made an impression in the Europa League. Gravenberch was rewarded for his development with his debut in the Dutch national team. In the final of the TOTO KNVB Cup against Vitesse, he was important with a goal in the 2-1 victory, while on Sunday he was allowed to keep the championship scale higher after a 4-0 victory over FC Emmen.

De Mos calls Gravenberch ‘a great player to watch’. “Enormous potential,” he says Football International. “I keep saying: that is going to be Ajax’s largest capital ever. If he is going to play the European Championship. And he will do that. And he has also slowly withdrawn from the hand of his tutor, Daley Blind. He has struggled with that for a few matches, but he has been withdrawing from that in the last matches. I thought he was very good against Utrecht and AZ. ”

According to De Mos, Gravenberch plays in a difficult position in midfield. “You are most vulnerable in the middle of the field. You get to the ball a lot and can therefore make a lot of mistakes. If you touch the ball a lot, it must also be good for the team: in the first build-up, in the last phase, a lot is expected of you ”, he explains. He thinks it is clever how Gravenberch fulfills his role. “He orientates himself very well on the field: where he should be. And with an assumption he can pass a player with one or two movements, there are few players who can do that. ”
