On Sunday afternoon, Arjen Robben played for thirty minutes as a substitute in the game between FC Groningen and Sparta Rotterdam (1-2). However, the question is whether the 37-year-old winger will take action against FC Emmen next week for the formation of trainer Danny Buijs. FC Emmen plays its home games at De Oude Meerdijk on artificial turf and Robben is not exactly a fan of that surface.

“At the beginning of the season, we decided to skip matches on synthetic turf. But I am not yet saying that we certainly do not do it one hundred percent. Maybe I’ll be there after all ”, Robben says Algemeen Dagblad. The wing attacker depends on the FC Groningen training week. If it is decided to train on artificial grass in the run-up to the duel with FC Emmen, Robben will probably pass next week’s match.

“My preference is for training on grass. Three days later we are already playing at home against AZ. Otherwise you always have to switch between the different surfaces ”, says Robben. He is not exactly a fan of artificial turf. “I hate it anyway. I also think it is not possible in the Eredivisie, let that be clear. It cannot be the case that three clubs play on artificial turf. This is not right. You play football on grass. Point.”

Robben played his fourth game of the season on Sunday-afternoon. After taking action against PSV and FC Utrecht at the beginning of the season, the wing attacker was sidelined for months with calf problems. Initially, it was tried to get him fit in time for last week’s away game against PSV, but his recovery went well and he was able to make minutes against sc Heerenveen two weeks earlier. Partly because of this, Robben had to pass up the visit to Eindhoven, but he played for thirty minutes against Sparta.
