Maurice Steijn will still go into home quarantine for five days, NAC Breda communicates through the official channels. The 47-year-old coach would initially not do that, after he spent six days in Ibiza last week on business. The decision not to go into home quarantine caused a lot of criticism and eventually made NAC decide to keep Steijn away from the club for a while.

The government recommends going into quarantine for five to 10 days after a trip abroad, but NAC said in a statement BN DeStem that Steijn was subjected to a daily rapid test in Ibiza and that the KNVB felt that he can coach responsibly. It was the intention that Steijn would have a group training from NAC under his wing for the first time on Saturday, as the selection had a day off on Friday. Now Steijn will be missing from the training for the next few days, while he also has to miss the away match against NEC Nijmegen. Assistant Hans Visser will do the honors.

“On closer inspection, the club management has decided to follow the rules regarding travel within Europe and the accompanying quarantine advice. Despite the protocols followed and the strict regime within the club, the club has nevertheless decided not to be an exception to the rule, ”NAC writes in a message on its website. General director Mattijs Manders says that the decision has been reconsidered ‘in close contact with the group’.

“Despite positive advice from the authorities. We believe it is important to set a good example for others, out of respect for everyone. Of course we do not want to create any health risk, however minimal. We thought it would be wise to strictly follow the formal line, but nevertheless came to the conclusion that this is the best decision, ”said Manders. Steijn is normally back on the bench at the home game with MVV Maastricht on Friday.
