Leandro Fernandes will train with the Feyenoord Under-21 for the coming period in the hope of enforcing a contract, it knows Algemeen Dagblad to report. The 21-year-old midfielder has been without a club since this month, after he left Italy’s Pescara behind. Fernandes had been under contract with the Serie B club for less than a year.

Fernandes once started at Quick 1888 Nijmegen, where NEC Nijmegen added him to the youth academy at the age of seven. PSV took him away from NEC six years later, after which he would eventually play in Eindhoven for two and a half years. In January 2018, Fernandes – who played youth matches for the Dutch Under-15, Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 – made the switch to Juventus, where he initially came to play in the Under-19.

Fernandes played in the Under-19 and Under-23 at Juventus, before a rental period at Fortuna Sittard followed. Last season, the midfielder made five appearances for the Limburgers in the Eredivisie, one of which as a basic player. Juventus finally let Fernandes leave for Pescara last summer, where he made thirteen appearances. Since January, Fernandes has barely played and two weeks ago he left the club immediately. Now he gets a chance to earn a contract at Feyenoord.
