The contract negotiations between Barcelona and Sergi Roberto are progressing slowly, so you know Mundo Deportivo Tuesday to report. The right-footed fullback is betting on a new two-year contract, while the Catalan club leadership does not want to go further than a one-season deal. The current contract of Sergi Roberto, who has been with Barcelona since 2006, will continue until the summer of 2022. An early departure cannot therefore be ruled out.

Since the arrival of chairman Joan Laporta in March, Barcelona has had a policy that players of thirty years and older can renew their contracts per year. The right back is 29 years old, but nevertheless, in the view of the technical management, he falls into that category. According to the aforementioned Spanish newspaper, the winger has doubts about a longer stay with the title candidate in LaLiga. Despite the struggles, talks between all parties involved have not yet been definitively stopped.

Football Affairs Director Mateu Alemany is in talks on behalf of Barcelona with Josep Maria Orobitg, Sergi Roberto’s agent. According to Mundo Deportivo the conversations so far have not been particularly constructive in nature. It remains to be seen whether Barcelona will convince the fullback to continue his career at the Camp Nou. Sergi Roberto cannot count on a permanent place under trainer Ronald Koeman, also due to persistent injuries. In this year he is on sixteen appearances in all competitions. In total there are 406 matches behind his name in the Barcelona shirt.

In the talks with the management of Sergi Roberto on behalf of Koeman, Alemany has expressed the intention to continue the collaboration. However, a contract for only one season is out of the question for the experienced defender. He is reportedly willing to spread his salary over a few seasons, it sounds from Spain. Sergi Roberto signed a four-year deal in Barcelona in February 2018, with an escape clause of around € 300 million.
