Atalanta did excellent business on Sunday evening in the battle for Champions League tickets. In the Serie A game with Bologna, the team of Gian Piero Gasperini already enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 lead at half time, which was further expanded in the second half: 5-0. Jerdy Schouten was sent off the field with an immediate red card a few minutes after the break after a hard charge around his own sixteen. Occupied thanks to the victory la Dea with 68 points for the time being the second place in the rankings and benefiting from the loss of points by Juventus (66 points), which is fourth. On Monday, number three AC Milan (66) can still recapture the second position, provided that a visit to Lazio is won.
It was a special night for Hans Hateboer, who only came into action for the first time since the 0-3 victory over AC Milan on January 27 due to injuries. He immediately got a basic place at Atalanta, just like Marten de Roon; Sam Lammers, who has not made a minute since February 6, came in for Duván Zapata fifteen minutes before time. After a reluctant opening phase from both sides, the match was broken open halfway through the first half. Ruslan Malinovskyi set up an attack himself, walked on and got into scoring position after a nice heel by Luis Muriel. Face to face with goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski finished the midfielder cool-blooded: 1-0.
Just before half time, Atalanta doubled the lead. Cristian Romero was pulled down in the sixteen-meter area by Danilo, who caused a penalty and received a yellow print. Muriel took the opportunity of eleven meters convincingly: 2-0. Bologna, which barely appeared in the game before the break, got into even deeper problems four minutes after the break. In an attempt to get Romero off the ball, Schouten went too hard on the Argentinian’s ankle, leaving Michael Fabbri with nothing but a direct red card.
Atalanta then managed to exploit the surplus situation perfectly. After an hour of play, the 3-0 was scored by Remo Freuler, who outwitted Skorupski in the short corner after a nice solo. Less than two minutes later, Atalanta expanded the margin even further; this time it was Zapata who put his name on the scoreboard at the request of Malinovskyi: 4-0. The final chord was played by Aleksey Miranchuk, who got a pass from Joakim Maehle in the sixteen and made it 5-0 with a viewed ball.
