Kenneth Perez thinks that Ajax will get another goalkeeper next summer, despite the fact that Remko Pasveer was presented as a new addition last week. Ronald de Boer looks at this differently and states that Maarten Stekelenburg and Pasveer will have to compete for the place under the bar with the team from Amsterdam next season. If Ajax does get a new goalkeeper, De Boer thinks Ajax must have lied to Pasveer.

“Fantastic!”, De Boer starts in the studio of ESPN after the game between Feyenoord and Vitesse (0-0). The analyst calls the transfer-free transfer from the 37-year-old goalkeeper to Ajax ‘surprising’. “It’s about whether he becomes second or third goalkeeper. How is Ajax going to fill it in? Are they going to buy a keeper? ” Perez concludes that André Onana will at least leave next summer. His contract will continue until mid-2022 and the negotiations about a new contract have been stopped, which means that Ajax will actually have to sell him next summer.

“Let’s say Onana is leaving, that’s what it looks like now. Then I wonder whether they will continue with Maarten Stekelenburg as the first goalkeeper ”, says Perez. “You don’t think they told Pasveer that he will be the third goalkeeper, do you?” De Boer responds to the words of his colleague analyst. “You’re not going to get a goalkeeper with a story that you don’t tell him? That they are going to get another keeper and not say that to him now. ”

“You think they said to him that he will compete with Stekelenburg to see who will be the first goalkeeper? Remko Pasveer? ”Perez then wonders. “We differ on that. It surprised me that he wants to become the third keeper at Ajax, while he is in the prime of his life and is the first keeper at Vitesse. Maarten Stekelenburg can also remain the first keeper at Ajax, but now you have two keepers of 37. That does not seem desirable to me, to be honest. ”

“The time when we thought 37 was very old for a goalkeeper has been,” De Boer continues. “We still have enough keepers who are still at an incredibly high level at the age of 40. They have experience and are of a high standard. I think Stekelenburg and Pasveer are number one and two. Suppose Ajax does buy someone, I think they lied to Pasveer. ”

“I think that the highest goal for all players in the Netherlands is to play for Ajax”, Vitesse trainer Thomas Letsch responds in front of the camera. ESPN at the departure of Pasveer. “He’s a certain age and I don’t know if he expected this offer. It was clear to him. When he told that he was going to sign with Ajax, you could see that he was happy with that. We had no chance. In the end we fell short of an agreement and then Ajax came. If Ajax had offered him a one-year anniversary, he would have signed there too. But you better ask him that. ”
