Noussair Mazraoui made his comeback for Ajax on Thursday evening, after being sidelined for months with an eye injury. The right back says that the rehabilitation of this injury, which he sustained after he got a ball in the face in the away match against Heracles Almelo, was ‘difficult’. At the same time, Mazraoui is in talks with Ajax TV to speak about Devyne Rensch, who recently replaced him in the team of trainer Erik ten Hag.

“This was more difficult than my previous injuries. There was absolutely nothing I could do. I had to rest purely and not do intensive things. That is why it is extra nice to be on the field again, ”says Mazraoui. His eye was so fragile that no risk could be taken. “You only have two eyes and you want to be able to use them well throughout your life. If you normally blink a few times when you have had something in your eye, the black haze you have for a while disappears. Now I blinked, but that haze lingered. ”

“I was told that I was not allowed to do anything for six weeks, especially in the first few weeks. Normally you dive into the gym with an injury and toil there. Then you say I will come back stronger and that sort of thing, but now it was lying on the bench and cycling on grandma booth ”, the fullback continues. Eighteen-year-old Rensch has already played 22 matches for Ajax this season, partly due to the absence of Mazraoui.

“Rensch did very well. That was nice to see. There are also some similarities between us in the urge forwards, the feeling of the ball and the ‘sloppiness’, ”says Mazraoui. He can play his hundredth match for Ajax against AZ next Sunday and celebrate the second national title in his career. “I am very happy to be back in the selection just before handing out the prizes. I’m really looking forward to lifting that 35th scale. ”
