Barcelona ‘suspects’ Ousmane Dembélé of wanting to leave in a year’s time. The 23-year-old attacker still has a contract at the Camp Nou until mid-2022, but has not yet reached an agreement with the club about a new contract. For that reason, Barcelona has according to Sport decided to sell Dembele next summer.

The Spanish sports newspaper features Dembélé on the front page on Saturday morning. Transferible, headlines Sport: Barcelona would have decided that the French attacker may leave next summer. At least fifty million euros must be put on the table for Dembélé. Juventus is interested in his services, but is negotiating with his entourage about a transfer-free transfer in the summer of 2022. That is a pitch-black scenario for Barcelona.

A possible transfer-free departure from Dembélé would be painful for Barcelona, as he was taken over from Borussia Dortmund for no less than 135 million euros in the summer of 2017. Partly because of this, the Catalans would like to extend with a 23-time French international. Another reason is that Dembele revived at Barcelona under the rule of trainer Ronald Koeman. For the time being, he scored 10 goals and 4 assists in 38 games this season, although he is currently suffering from an injury.

Manchester United already had concrete interest in Dembele last summer. The current number two in the Premier League initially wanted to take over the 23-year-old attacker from Barcelona on a rental basis, with an option to buy. However, Manchester United and Barcelona did not come out, leaving Dembele in Spain. Sport previously wrote that Manchester United had not lost sight of him, which made the contract negotiations between Barcelona and Dembele difficult.

Dembélé wants a hefty salary and Barcelona should not have to because of the financial difficulties. In the meantime, the Catalans would have made the decision to get rid of the attacker next summer, as this seems to be the moment to bring in an acceptable transfer fee. Incidentally, it was previously suggested that Manchester United also wanted to wait until the summer of 2022, to be able to bring in Dembele on a transfer-free basis.
