Fortuna Sittard will most likely have to do without Yanick van Osch in the away match against ADO Den Haag on Sunday. The goalkeeper tested positive for the coronavius this week. 1Limburg calls the chance ‘very small’ that the first keeper will make it to the match in The Hague. Trainer Sjors Ultee will have to make a choice between Piet Velthuizen and Joshua Wehking.

Van Osch was tested again on Friday, but the club says that it is not expected that the 24-year-old goalkeeper will be available. Ultee will therefore have to choose a replacement and can choose from Velthuizen and Wehking. According to the regional broadcaster, both goalkeepers were critically examined by the head coach during Friday’s training. The 21-year-old Wehking came over from Hamburger SV in the summer of last year and played less than a minute in the Eredivisie.

Velthuizen signed a contract in February until the end of the season in Limburg. The closing post had been without a club for some time and was willing to lend a helping hand to Fortuna Sittard. At the time, the club was struggling with a goalkeeper problem, as Van Osch was injured and second choice Alexei Koselev was about to make a transfer. Velthuizen looked anything but fit, but then made his comeback under the bar in the Eredivisie.

The return of the former goalkeeper of Vitesse, however, turned out to be a catastrophe. In the away match against FC Groningen (1-0), Velthuizen injured his hamstring early in the game, after which Koselev took his place under the bar after 23 minutes of play. As a result of Velthuizen’s injury, an internal riot occurred at Fortuna, in which goalkeeper coach Sieb Dijkstra was eventually banned from the first team and returned to the youth academy by the club.
