AC Milan left very expensive points in the Serie A on Wednesday evening. Stefano Pioli’s team lost against Sassuolo at home: 1-2. That not only means that leader Internazionale can extend the lead to twelve points if Spezia is won tonight, but also that the competition is closer to i Rossoneri can come. Milan is, with one more game, only six points above the fifth place, which is good for Europa League football.

Pioli’s team started the game well, but the first chance came after thirteen minutes for the visitors. After a clever pass from Filip Djuricic, Jérémie Boga got the ball face to face with Gianluigi Donnarumma not past the goalkeeper. After half an hour of play, Hakan Calhanoglu broke the spell brilliantly. He received a pass from Alexis Saelemaekers on the left side of the penalty area and then placed the ball nicely with the right in the top right corner behind the hopeless Andrea Consigli: 1-0.

Milan, which took office without the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic, escaped an equalizer just before the break. Diogo Dalot prevented Domenico Berardi from cashing in on a Djuricic pass with a tackle. Sassuolo also kept looking for an equalizer in the second half, but the 2-0 was in the air. A shot from a distance by Saelemaekers was stopped by the attentive Consigli and a few minutes later the goalkeeper also turned a good attempt from Calhanoglu. Twenty minutes before time, Gian Marco Ferrari prevented a shot from Franck Kessié with a tackle.

In the last fifteen minutes, Milan completely relinquished the game. Raspadori tapped in from close by a blocked bet by Jeremy Toljan and a few minutes later also took the 1-2. The substitute easily got rid of Fikayo Tomori in the penalty area and saw his diagional bet go into the goal via the left post. It was thanks to Donnarumma that a good shot from Georgios Kyriakopoulos did not mean the 1-3.
