Roger Schmidt has the option of returning to the Bundesliga. BILD reports on Wednesday that the PSV trainer has appeared on the radar of Hertha BSC, the current number sixteen in the German league. Fredi Bobic, who will start his duties as Hertha’s technical director in June, is reported to be talking to Schmidt for the first time. The former attacker is currently still working at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Schmidt was also brought to Frankfurt earlier this month in April, where they are looking for a successor to Adi Hütter, who is leaving for Borussia Mönchengladbach. At Hertha, Pal Dardai is currently still in charge as head coach. The former player of the Berlin club was appointed in January as successor to the fired Bruno Labbadia. Dardai, with a contract with Hertha until 2022, was also associated with the low flyer as a training master between February 2015 and mid-2019.

Dardai would, according to BILD may stay if he would take at least 24 points. So far, however, the counter is only six points since his return to the dugout. Hertha is currently in sixteenth place, which means that play-offs will follow at the end of the season to preserve life. However, they have played two games less than number seventeen 1. Schmidt signed a two-year contract when he was appointed in Eindhoven last year. Should he nevertheless leave for the trainer position at Hertha, that will be his second adventure in the Bundesliga. Schmidt worked at Bayer Leverkusen for some time in the past.
