The Liverpool squad is fiercely opposed to the Super League, according to a tweet from Jordan Henderson. The captain of Liverpool makes it clear that the group of players is not waiting for the new competition. “We don’t like it and we don’t want it to happen. That’s our shared opinion. Our commitment to this football club and its supporters is unquestioning,” Henderson writes. The statement was shared by Virgil van Dijk, among others.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Daily Mail that Henderson has organized an emergency meeting with all the leaders of the Premier League clubs. He wanted to share his concerns about the announced competition. The meeting was called ‘significant’ by the newspaper, because representatives of the six English Super League clubs and of the other Premier League clubs join.

Henderson was also previously the designer of the gesture of the Premier League players towards the English health organization NHS in the corona pandemic. For example, a fund was set up, which raised millions for the NHS. In the consultation with the leaders, of which it is unclear whether it has already taken place, it will probably be discussed how the players will comment on the plan in the coming period, as it is predicted that they will be ‘under a microscope’ next weekend. Various English clubs now seem to be withdrawing, but this does not apply to Liverpool.
