Atlético Madrid made no mistake on Sunday in the battle for the national title in Spain. The leader of LaLiga won 5-0 against the bottom of the league Eibar and has a four-point lead over Real Madrid; number three Barcelona is five points behind. Both title competitors still have a duel credit. Atlético had to make do without the injured attackers João Félix and Luis Suárez.

Until the fortieth minute, there was little reason for Diego Simeone to be satisfied, but the last five minutes before half-time made sure that Atlético went to the dressing room with a good feeling. Ángel Correa scored twice for the home team. The attacker worked the ball in from close range when Héctor Herrera headed the ball through after a corner kick; moments later Correa received the ball in the penalty area from Yannick Carrasco, turned it open in the penalty area and found the right corner in a controlled manner.

After the break, Atlético expanded the score. Carrasco made it 3-0 by bypassing the released goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic and rounding it off in an empty goal after a long ball from Saúl Ñíguez. In minute 53, Marcos Llorente made it 4-0 with a low, diagonal shot into the left corner. The substitute for the injured Félix also set the final score, when he was served by Carrasco halfway through the second half, whipped the ball up into the penalty area and hit it effectively. It was Atlético’s biggest competitive victory since its 6-1 victory over Granada in September 2020.
