Trainer Paulo Fonseca has announced the 21-man selection of AS Roma for the home game against Ajax in the quarter finals of the Europa League. Rick Karsdorp returns from suspension, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has the clash in Amsterdam due to an injury, seems to have digested Sunday’s raid against Bologna (1-1) well. Fonseca considers the midfielder / winger, accurate on behalf of Manchester United in the final of the Europa League in 2017 against Ajax (0-2), fit enough for the Amsterdam club to visit the Stadio Olimpico.

Where Karsdorp can be deployed again in the defense of Roma, Leonardo Spinazzola has to take a step back. The left back was injured in the Johan Cruijff ArenA last Thursday and the home game at home on Thursday evening comes too early for him. Bruno Peres is missing in the away match against Ajax because of his yellow card and it is expected that Karsdorp will take his position. Central defender Chris Smalling is still too much bothered by a knee injury. The English mandekker has therefore not been put on the list by Fonseca.

Midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini and defender Roger Ibañez, responsible for Roma goals in the second half of the match in Amsterdam, are also back. Earlier this week, UEFA appointed Englishman Anthony Taylor as referee for the match between Roma and Ajax in the Italian capital. In Rome, the first whistle will sound on Thursday evening at 9 p.m. The selection of Ajax traveled to talië earlier this Wednesday and the selection of trainer Erik ten Hag will complete a training session on Wednesday evening in preparation for the game a day later.
