Club Brugge suffered a surprising defeat on Sunday at Anderlecht. Noa Lang opened the score in the 53rd minute after a nice action, but Vincent Kompany’s team eventually won 2-1 in the Lotto Park in Brussels. Anderlecht, which won three times in a row for the first time this season, is therefore almost certain of participating in the play-offs for the championship in the Jupiler Pro League. It is only the first victory for the people of Brussels blue-black after a series of seven losses and a draw in the last eight games.

Anderlecht and Club Brugge disappointed in the top match in the first half. After twelve minutes, the leader thought to take the lead when Ruud Vormer worked the ball over Timon Wellenreuther via the unlucky Matt Miazga. The VAR, however, rejected his goal due to the captain’s exceptionally narrow offside. That was actually the only highlight in the first half, as Anderlecht was mainly concerned with defusing the Bruges team and succeeded quite well.

The first shot between the posts was just after half time by Anouar Ait El Hadj, but after that Bas Dost was dangerous with a bet off the post and in the end the 0-1 fell on the other side of the field. Lang, who came in for Youssouph Badji at half-time, impressed the players of Anderlecht with his hood movement, pirouette and controlled slider in the corner. For the Dutchman, it was his first minutes since his suspension after a red card in the lost top match against Royal Antwerp FC (0-2) and the knee injury at the Juniors.

Anderlecht didn’t have a suitable answer, but after 72 minutes of play, the 1-1 came out of nowhere. Lukas Nmecha made his first field goal of the calendar year on a pass from Francis Amuzu and a few minutes later Simon Mignolet had no answer to a shot from Albert Sambi Lokonga from distance: 2-1. Long was still close to the equalizer, but Wellenreuther turned his bet. Tahith Chong competed for the last ten minutes; Stefano Denswil stayed on the couch for ninety minutes.
