Gabriel Misehouy and Alvaro Henry signed their first professional contract with Ajax on Friday, the Amsterdam club announces. The pair will remain associated with the Eredivisie leader until at least mid-2024. It is the second time in a short period of time that the club management of Ajax has succeeded in binding talented players from their own training to the club for a longer period of time.

The only fifteen-year-old Misehouy, originally a midfielder, went through the youth division of Ajax and is currently part of the club’s Under 17 team. His first contract as a professional football player will take effect on August 1 of this year, or so it sounds from Amsterdam. Henry turned sixteen in February and exchanged the youth academy of FC Utrecht for that of Ajax in mid-2019. The contract of the young and talented defender starts a month earlier, so on July 1, 2021. Both players sign the contracts in the presence of Saïd Ouaali, head of training at Ajax.

There was also quite a bit of interest in Misehouy. According to The Telegraph Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Manchester City and RB Leipzig angled for his services. The director of football affairs has succeeded in keeping Misehouy on board, among other things by breaking through the salary scale. For Henry, according to Ajax Showtime interest from Dortmund, Leipzig and some clubs from the Serie A. Nevertheless, he opts for a longer stay in Amsterdam.

Misehouy and Henry are in good company. Ajax announced in the last week of March that professional contracts had been handed out to Donny Warmerdam, Youri Baas and David Kalokoh and this trio will therefore also be connected to the club until at least 2024. Warmerdam and Baas have already made their debut in professional football on behalf of Young Ajax.
