The question is whether Henk de Jong will stay on as trainer at SC Cambuur. The trainer, just like technical director Foeke Booy, has indicated that he will only remain if board members Ard de Graaf and Gerald van den Belt also remain at the club, reports Football International. It is the result of a crisis that has been going on within the club’s board for a while. The supporters believe that the foundation board should resign.

The turmoil started in the summer of 2019, when three members of the Board of Directors decided to leave out of dissatisfaction with the state of affairs within the club’s board. When the foundation board then had to look for a new chairman and Ype Smid was nominated, two of the three supervisory directors threatened to resign. Van den Belt would also leave the club when Smid was appointed, after which Smid decided to withdraw at the last minute.

Ultimately, a compromise was reached whereby at the end of the current season, on June 1, a farewell would be made to both the foundation board and the Supervisory Board. Initially, that plan seemed to be able to count on support, but is now being revised. This also means that Van den Belt’s position is not insured. “We have had good conversations about the coming years and I would like to stay here. But if the management leaves, I don’t see a future for myself at Cambuur ”, Booy says.

De Jong also commits his future to retaining the management board. “The club came to me at the end of last year with the plan to sign a new multi-year contract. I am positive about that because I really enjoy it, but it is very important that Ard and Gerald stay on. Because the success of Cambuur belongs to all of us, from supporter to director. ” Booy’s contract will expire in a number of months, while De Jong still has a contract until the summer of 2022.
