Manchester City wants to strengthen itself next summer with a top striker to replace Sergio Agüero, whose contract expires after this season. According to various English media, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé are high on the wish list of the Premier League leader. The Athletic reports on Monday that City will choose the Borussia Dortmund striker over Paris Saint-Germain for one reason in particular in the upcoming transfer window.

The Citizens are looking for an absolute top striker and are said to have ended up with Haaland and Mbappé. Preference would be given to the former, as Manchester is feared for Mbappé’s financial demands. Manchester City has sufficient financial resources to meet the needs of the France international, but is not waiting for crooked faces in the dressing room. The club management would be afraid that Mbappé’s huge contract would disrupt the relationships in the players group. The 22-year-old French international has a contract until mid-2022 in Paris and would be open to a longer stay.

Manchester City takes into account that the transfer fee from Haaland will be huge. However, the financial requirements of Mino Raiola’s client are expected to be lower. The agent said last month that there are only ten clubs in the world that are able to attract Haaland. Manchester City is expected to be one of those ten clubs. Competition for the 20-year-old striker’s signature will be fierce. Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid are also mentioned in the corridors as possible new clubs for the striker, who has already scored 31 times in all competitions on behalf of Dortmund this season and is set until the summer of 2024.

According to The Athletic Manchester City also has an alternative up its sleeve. Should the battle for Haaland be lost, attention will shift to Tottenham Hotspur captain Harry Kane. The 27-year-old English international is fixed until mid-2024 the Spurs. Talks about a new alliance have been postponed due to the corona crisis.
