Jordi Cruijff may soon be able to call himself the technical director of Barcelona. Joan Laporta was elected new club president on Sunday evening and one of his first acts is said to be according to the Spanish radio station RAC1 recruiting Cruyff for technical policy. Reportedly, Johan Cruijff’s son will already report to the Camp Nou on Wednesday to finalize the deal.
It is no surprise that Laporta ends up with Jordi Cruijff. The two have a good relationship and Cruijff previously announced that his father would certainly have voted for Laporta. The former player of Barcelona and Manchester United, among others, has been working as head coach of the Chinese Shenzhen since September last year. He previously held a role as technical director at AEK Larnaca and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Laporta announced in a speech on Sunday evening after his victory that he sees Johan Cruijff as a great source of inspiration. He spoke highly of the club legend: “He inspires us in everything we do,” said Laporta, who was elected the new president of Barcelona with over 54 percent of the vote. “We follow Cruijff in everything we do,” he said in his victory speech.
One of the things Laporta wants to accomplish as the club’s new president is to keep Lionel Messi. The Argentinian has an expiring contract at the Camp Nou and can leave next summer on a transfer-free basis, unless he signs a new contract. “The fact that the best player in the world came to vote today with his son is proof that Lionel Messi loves Barcelona,” said Laporta.
