Football clubs from the Eredivisie have jointly received an advance of approximately twenty million euros in NOW money, according to figures published by the UWV on Wednesday. This concerns the aid scheme, from July to September. PSV received more than 2.5 million euros and thus collected the highest amount from the clubs in the Netherlands.

Ajax received slightly more than 1.3 million euros, but already announced during the General Shareholders Meeting (AGM) this month that it would repay the amount. The leader of the Eredivisie is no longer entitled to government support because of the proceeds from the transfers of Hakim Ziyech, Donny van de Beek and Sergiño Dest. SC Heerenveen also repaid the amount to the UWV, after Chidera Ejuke was sold to CSKA Moscow for twelve million euros. The Frisian club is therefore not included in the figures of the UWV and it is therefore not known exactly how much money Heerenveen has received.

The lowest amount was deposited into the account of RKC Waalwijk: 562,092 euros. Clubs in the Kitchen Champion Division also made full use of the second NOW support scheme. De Graafschap received the highest amount and received slightly less support than RKC: 559,140 euros. Almere City FC and MVV Maastricht cannot be found on the UWV list.

The NOW (Temporary Emergency Bridging Measure for Employment) is intended for employers who are faced with a substantial loss of turnover as a result of the corona virus. They can submit an application to the UWV for a contribution towards wage costs and receive an advance for this. The numbers behind ‘NOW’ represent the various application periods in the year; the first period ran from March to May and is known as NOW-1. During that period, clubs from the Eredivisie received a total of approximately 25 million euros. The third period started in October.
