Mitchell van der Gaag, as a trainer of Young Ajax, has seen several players move up to the first team of the team from Amsterdam in recent seasons. Ryan Gravenberch, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Jurriën Timber have already made their debut in the main squad, while Brian Brobbey also recently made his first official minutes in the main squad. Devyne Rensch and Kenneth Taylor have also moved on to the first team. “That is great to see. You always get the chance at Ajax”, says Van der Gaag in conversation with Ajax TV.

Brobbey scored continuously at Young Ajax and got the chance in the first team for the international match period. He came in as a substitute against Fortuna Sittard and scored on his debut. “Brian has worked very hard for it,” said Van der Gaag. “Those guys are always impatient, they want everything as quickly as possible. On the other hand: if they show it to Jong every week, it will go without saying. That’s what happened to Brian. It is nice that he scored right on his debut. Now it really starts for him. ”

Timber has already made his debut in the first team. Van der Gaag is impressed by the development of the nineteen-year-old defender. “Last year he played almost all matches with us and made his breakthrough with the first team. So you now also see another Jurriën on the field ”, said the trainer. “No matter how young he himself is, he takes other guys along in his leadership. He ran the entire preparation at the first. That makes you a better player. ”

Van der Gaag has to deal with other players at Young Ajax every week, so the performances are not always stable in the Kitchen Champion Division. He hopes to see improvements there in the coming period. “We want to dominate and be dominant for longer periods of the game. We have to continuously pay attention to the field occupation, running actions in depth and the occupation in front of the goal. The players want to have the ball in their feet, so we have to constantly pay attention to that. “
