Go Ahead Eagles has left nothing intact on Monday evening in the first round of the KNVB Cup of the corona-ravaged NAC Breda. Partly thanks to a 5-0 lead after nineteen minutes of play, Kees van Wonderen’s team eventually triumphed 6-0 over Maurice Steijn’s men. NAC played in Deventer for various reasons without Lex Immers, Thom Haye, Colin Rösler, Jethro Mashart, Nacho Monsalve, Roy Kortsmit, Sidney van Hooijdonk, Kai de Rooij, Moreno Rutten and Robin Schouten.

Go Ahead got off to a phenomenal start. The completely detached Sam Beukema hit from a corner and put the home team 1-0 after seven minutes. Sam Hendriks was completely lost out of sight by the NAC defenders three minutes later and simply tapped in the 2-0. Two minutes later, Zakaria Eddahchouri punished dramatically defending the Breda team and in the fifteenth minute Anouar Kali caused a penalty, which was shot hard by Jeroen Veldmate: 3-0 and 4-0.

It seemed like the beginning of an agony for the former leader of the Kitchen Champion Division, as Luuk Brouwers was allowed to cross half the field and take care of the 5-0 in the nineteenth minute. Steijn took Lewis Fiorini to the side for Darwin Heuvelman and with a 4-4-2 formation he hoped that his team would manage to avoid an even bigger beating. In any case, the players of NAC succeeded until half-time and Huseyin Dogan even had a chance at the 5-1.

Two minutes after the break, Antoine Rabillard joined the list of six different goalscorers: 6-0. Breaking the club record, an 11-1 victory over Roda JC in October 1962, turned out to be a bridge too far for the Deventer formation. A bigger victory was not achieved, partly thanks to Chiel Kramer. The NAC goalkeeper prevented Wout Droste from scoring and substitute Nicolas Abdat also failed to get the ball behind the closing post, which hit the post.
