The official debut of Kenneth Taylor for Ajax 1 is delayed. The eighteen-year-old midfielder thought he was going to play an away game for Young Ajax against MVV in the Kitchen Champion Division on Friday, but he was told that he had to sit on the bench at Ajax 1 the next day. Taylor did not play in Maastricht and reported a day later to the selection of Erik ten Hag, perhaps dreaming about playing time, for the match with VVV-Venlo (0-13).

Taylor started on the bench and eventually saw that Quincy Promes, Lisandro Martinez, Zakaria Labyad, Edson Álvarez and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar were allowed to come in as the score increased. “Everything has its reason, because of course I can only bring in five substitutes. Kenneth has played a lot recently and Klaas-Jan, for example, cannot let me play in Young Ajax, while it could become very important in the further course of the season ”, Erik ten Hag explained. The Telegraph his choice.

“This was therefore an opportunity to bring him. Kenneth’s time will come. He is of course still very young. But if he continues like this, the Eredivisie debut will come automatically ”, emphasized Ten Hag. In the view of Valentijn Driessen, it was a missed opportunity for Ten Hag to let the young Taylor make his debut in Venlo entirely in accordance with the Ajax philosophy and tradition. “And perhaps as the umpteenth debutant from their own training to score his goal,” the journalist explains.

“It had completed the picture. This lack of empathy underlines that Ten Hag is not a real Ajax player ”, emphasizes the football chief The Telegraph. Taylor has been part of Ajax’s youth academy since 2010. In October 2018 he made his debut for the Ajax Reserves, although he mainly played for Ajax Under-19 that season. Since last season, the midfielder, who last month signed a new contract until mid-2024, has been playing for Ajax’s highest youth team.
