On Sunday, Adil Auassar grew into the schlemiel at Sparta Rotterdam. The midfielder was sent off the field in the home game with Heracles Almelo. Henk Fraser’s team was leading 1-0 at that time and had to allow an equalizer with one man less: 1-1. After a mutual duel, Auassar and Rai Vloet ended up on the grass. Vloet seemed to kick off Auassar, who responded by wanting to grab and kick Vloet.

The incident had escaped arbitrator Serdar Gözübüyük, but after interference from the VAR, a red card followed. “I thought he was kicking me, but okay”, Auassar answered when asked what exactly had happened. “I don’t know if that happened and I don’t feel like I kicked it. I think it went in a movement that I didn’t even realize. We said it and then to my surprise the red card came. ”

Auassar was shown the images again and the question what he saw exactly. “I better ask you what you see,” replied the midfielder, to which the reporter said FOX Sports indicated that he had observed a kicking movement. “And I also saw that Vloet was not completely indifferent in that game.” Auassar: “Then you have reported everything. If I had wanted to kick him, I would have hit him harder. But it shouldn’t happen to me. ”

“I got a push in my back and it felt like he wanted to fall through on me,” Vloet said in turn in front of the camera, while he was presented with the images. “Then I wanted to push him away. I can see that my leg is moving, but that is more the force from my arm. I want to push him off me. My leg moves automatically. I had no intention of pedaling. To be honest, I had not seen his pedaling movement on the field. I only see that now, but I felt nothing. It was a surprise to me that he had to get out. ”

“It’s more up to the referee to give a red card. I don’t know what his intention is. ” Bart Vriends, who took over the Auassar captain’s armband, could not blame his teammate. “Adil is a soldier, he always plays on the edge,” said the defender. “We can’t blame him.” Fraser thought otherwise. “I really appreciate Adil, but I’m going to talk to him that these things don’t help us.”

Fraser found it striking that Auassar was punished and Vloet was not. “Both players made a kicking movement, but both players did not hit each other. I understood that the VAR only showed the images of Adil. That is measuring with two standards.” The coach is angry with his midfielder, but not disappointed. “No, because Adil has always been an exemplary captain. But if I am full of praise for him, I can also be critical.”
