For the first time this season, VfL Wolfsburg has won a game in the Bundesliga. In their own Volkswagen-Arena, coach Oliver Glasner’s team triumphed 2-1 over Arminia Bielefeld, partly due to a goal by Wout Weghorst. Played in the previous four games in the Bundesliga die Wölfe always right.

After four consecutive draws, it soon became clear that Wolfsburg was on its way to winning for the first time this season. In the nineteenth minute, the home team opened the score after a surprising free kick. From a good twenty meters Maximilian Arnold was allowed to lay on the right flank for a free kick. Where Arminia Bielefeld anticipated a shot, he opted for a tight pass on the detached Weghorst. He found the goal from the turn: 1-0.

One minute after Weghorst’s goal, Wolfsburg doubled the margin. The declarer of the 1-0 was the finisher this time: Arnold intercepted a weak lead-in pass from goalkeeper Stefan Ortega and got the ball to Admir Mehmedi, who in turn enabled Arnold to make it 2-0. Defender Maxence Lacroix of Wolfsburg headed on the crossbar, after which Sven Schipplock scored for Arminia Bielefeld on a pass from star Ritsu Doan, who clearly caused the most danger for the visitors throughout the match. A deflected shot by Manuel Prietl hit the post, preventing the tying run.
