Ajax wrote history on Saturday afternoon at the staggeringly weak VVV-Venlo. The 0-13 victory of trainer Erik ten Hag and his players is currently around the world. It is only the eighth time that a club has achieved double figures in the Eredivisie and Ajax improved its own record from 1971/72, a 12-1 victory over Vitesse. Statistics office Opta looks back on the memorable meeting in North Limburg.

Eredivisie record
Ajax’s 0-13 victory over VVV-Venlo is the biggest ever victory for a team in an Eredivisie match. The previous record was also held by Ajax and came from May 1972 (12-1 against Vitesse).

Negative record
VVV never got so many goals against in an official game. The previous negative club record was ten goals against in a Eerste Divisie match with FC Eindhoven in 1964 (10-1). VVV’s previous biggest Eredivisie defeat was an 8-1 against AZ in August 1978.

With one man less
Christian Kum got red for the sixth time in the Eredivisie, only Joey van den Berg and Gregoor van Dijk were sent away more often (both seven, ten others also six red cards). Delano van Crooij became the first keeper to make ten saves in an Eredivisie game this season.

FC Differdange 03
Ajax only ever managed to book a bigger victory in all competitions in October 1984: 14-0 against FC Differdange 03 in the Europa League, the team from Amsterdam previously won 1-14 when visiting WHC in the KNVB Cup in December 2009.

Record
Ajax scored 45 attempts and 23 shots on goal against VVV, in both cases the highest number ever for a team in an Eredivisie match since Opta analyzes the competition in full detail (2010/11).

Perr Schuurs
Ajax recorded 82 ball contacts in the VVV penalty area. Since the full analysis of the Eredivisie (2010/11), only one team recorded a higher number (AZ 84 against FC Twente in November 2019). Perr Schuurs was the only Ajax outfield player without a touch of the ball in the VVV box.

Effective
Lassina Traoré became the first Ajax player with five goals in an Eredivisie match since Marco van Basten in 1985 (six) and the first with three assists in a league match since Frenkie de Jong in 2017 (also three). All five shots on target by Traoré against VVV ended in a hit (nine shots in total).

Afonso Alves
Lassina Traoré became the first player this century to be directly involved in eight goals in an Eredivisie match. This record was held by Afonso Alves who scored seven times on behalf of sc Heerenveen against Heracles Almelo in October 2007.

Arnold Bruggink
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar made his seventeenth and eighteenth Eredivisie goal as a substitute (149 goals in total), only Arnold Bruggink scored more often as a substitute in the Eredivisie (21 times, Danny Koevermans 17).
