Chelsea and Arsenal have both reached the round of 16 of the EFL Cup. The Blues won 6-0 in their own stadium against Barnsley in the Championship, partly thanks to a hat-trick by Kai Havertz. Arsenal visited Leicester City with 0-2 too strong in a match that was broken open by a clumsy own goal by Christian Fuchs.

Chelsea – Barnsley 6-0
Without the injured Hakim Ziyech, but with Thiago Silva in the starting eleven and Ben Chilwell on the reserve bench, Chelsea started the EFL Cup duel with Barnsley. The first opportunities were for the visitors, through Callum Styles and Cauley Woodrow. Chelsea’s lead after nineteen minutes was due to fumbling in Barnsley’s defense. Tammy Abraham was therefore offered a great opportunity and made no mistake face to face with goalkeeper Bradley Collins. The home team already managed to double the margin within half an hour. After a nice switch from Abraham, Kai Havertz turned up in the penalty area and the attacking midfielder signed with control for his first Chelsea goal.

Kai Havertz & Tammy Abraham masterclass? Barnsley Football Club disaster class?

Barnsley kept Chelsea in his sights until half time, but saw manager Frank Lampard’s team walk away soon after half time. Ross Barkley put an end to all uncertainty after four minutes in the second half with the 3-0. Barnsley’s defense soon offered Chelsea an opportunity to expand further. Eventually Abraham brought up Havertz with a heel, who shot his second goal of the evening against the ropes. With 65 minutes left, the £ 80 million attacking midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen completed his hat-trick after being served by Abraham again and outwitting Collins. In the end, substitute Olivier Giroud determined the final score at 6-0 on the advice of acquisition Chilwell.

Leicester City 0-2 Arsenal
A tough match awaited Arsenal in the third round of the EFL Cup tournament, although they stayed with it the Foxes for example Jamie Vardy outside the match squad. Arsenal also did not enter the King Power Stadium with its strongest eleven, as Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, among others, were not at the kick-off. The first possibility for the Gunners was credited to Reiss Nelson, who just saw his shot go over Danny Ward’s goal. Before the break, Arsenal believed they were entitled to a penalty kick, when Daniel Amartey Bukaya Saka worked to the ground. However, the ball did not hit the spot.

After an hour of play, the game was broken open. Nicolas Pépé brought the ball in two instances, after which Christian Fuchs got the second cross shot against him via Ward. Via the Austrian fullback, the ball eventually bounced into the goal, giving Arsenal the lead. Leicester City was forced to launch a final offensive due to the backlog and was given another opportunity via Ayoze Pérez, but saw Eddie Nketiah finally put an end to all uncertainty shortly before the end and determine the final score at 0-2. Arsenal will face the winner of the game between Lincoln City and Liverpool in the eighth final, which is scheduled for Thursday evening.
