There has been a big fuss in the Italian media about the language test that Luis Suárez took in Italy last Thursday. The Barcelona attacker traveled to Perugia for the test that was part of a possible transfer to Juventus. According to, among others Sky Italia and Sports Media Set however, the test has been tampered with. Suárez would have known all the answers prior to the test. It was also known then that the Uruguayan would succeed. The result is therefore considered invalid, it sounds. The Italian authorities are now intensively investigating the matter.

The aforementioned Italian media is based on an investigation by the Guardia di Finanza, a military police force responsible for investigating tax offenses and economic fraud. Suárez underwent the test to obtain an Italian passport. Only in this way could a transfer to Juventus continue. Italian clubs are only allowed to attract two players from outside the European Union per transfer period and La Vecchia Signora is already at this limit due to the arrival of Arthur Melo and Weston McKennie. Due to his wife’s descent, Suárez is eligible for Italian citizenship and with an Italian passport could still become a player of the great power from Turin.

That has since become clear La Vecchia Signora no longer seems to be concerned with Suárez. It is planned to present Álvaro Morata from Atlético Madrid as the new striker in the short term. Suárez, in turn, is Atlético’s intended new offensive leader. The 33-year-old attacker must first reach an agreement with Barcelona about the termination of the contract that runs until 2021. In any case, trainer Ronald Koeman no longer needs him, it became clear recently.

RAC1 reported last week that obtaining a passport would be a lengthy process for Suárez. The process is unlikely to be completed before the end of the transfer window, and the deadline for players to register for the Champions League group stage on October 5. On Thursday, it was again assured in the Italian press that Edin Dzeko is Juventus’ first choice. Morata has now surpassed him as a top candidate for trainer Andrea Pirlo.
