Ronald Koeman will not be able to take a seat on the bench of Barcelona during an official match in Barcelona for the time being, reports Cadena COPE Wednesday night. According to the radio station’s journalist Helena Condis, football association RFEF has not yet been able to officially process Koeman’s appointment, because his predecessor Quique Setién has not yet reached agreement with Barcelona on a settlement following his resignation.

According to the reports, Setién, whose commitment lasted until mid-2022, wants to receive remaining salary from the club. Because the contract termination has not yet been officially completed, Koeman’s enrolment as new trainer has not yet been officially processed. This means that for the time being, the Dutchman will only be allowed to sit on the bench at practice matches: on Wednesday he was in the dugout for the second time, when Barcelona won 3-1 against Girona. Four days earlier Gimnàstic was beaten with the same figures.

Saturday a duel with Elche awaits for the Trofeu Joan Gamper. The first official game scheduled for Barcelona is the season opener of LaLiga against Villarreal on Sunday 27 September. Barcelona, like the other clubs that were active in Europe last season after the winter break, will start the season later.
