The Dutch national team won the farewell match prior to the European Championship on Monday evening. The team of national coach Ronald Koeman was too strong for Iceland in De Kuip with 4-0 thanks to goals from Xavi Simons, Virgil van Dijk and substitutes Donyell Malen and Wout Weghorst. Football zone rates the Oranje's basic players with a grade.

Bart Verbruggen: 6

Verbruggen was told last week that he is the first goalkeeper of the Dutch national team during the European Championship. The 21-year-old goalie hardly had to act in the practice match against Canada (4-0 win). Verbruggen again had little to do against Iceland. The goalie escaped unscathed in the 71st minute, after a long shot from Stefan Thórdarson suddenly hit the post.

Denzel Dumfries: 7.5

It may well be that Koeman has not yet decided who he will field as right back at the European Championship: Dumfries or Jeremie Frimpong. The latter was the absolute standout against Canada. Dumfries was allowed to show himself to the national coach in the match against Iceland. The right back once again impressed in an attacking sense by laying the ball ready for Simons with his head, making the 1-0 a fact. Even after that he caused danger several times.

Stefan de Vrij: 7

Inter's experienced defender was preferred in the center of defense next to Van Dijk over Lutsharel Geertruida and Matthijs de Ligt. De Vrij played a solid match and won the majority of his personal duels. After about an hour of play, he managed to save the Dutch team from making Poland 2-1 with a strong interception after a slip by Reijnders.

Virgil van Dijk: 6.5

Koeman may have started with his intended starting XI against Iceland during the opening match at the European Championship. Van Dijk returned to the team and was given the captain's armband again. In the first act, the marker stood out for two bad moments: a cross pass that flew into the stands and a pass from Iceland behind the Dutch defense that he misjudged. Early in the second half, Van Dijk showed his positive side by heading the 2-0 against the ropes from a corner kick.

Nathan Ake: 6.5

During the European Championship, Aké is one of the players who already seems certain of a starting place. The multifunctional defender can play as a left back and as a central defender. He didn't do anything crazy against Iceland. As a more defensive wing defender, Aké had to ensure that the remaining defense was in order when Dumfries attacked on the other side.

Joey Veerman: 8

Now that Frenkie de Jong will miss the European Championships in Germany due to his ankle injury, Joey Veerman seems to be his preferred replacement. The creative man formed a midfield with Reijnders and Schouten on Monday evening and was at the heart of Simons' 1-0. Veerman had a nice pass to Dumfries, who then provided the assist. Veerman certainly had a good connection with the former PSV player, as the right back was found again with a splitting pass before half time.

Tijjani Reijnders: 6

Thanks to his good performances during his debut season at AC Milan and in the Dutch team, Reijnders has become one of the important forces in Koeman's team. Against Iceland, he had a share in the frivolous game of the Dutch team thanks to quickly shifting the game. After about an hour he had a slip by losing the ball on the back line. In the end it was not fatal for Reijnders due to strong intervention by De Vrij.

Jerdy Schouten: 6.5

Schouten seemed to have to settle for a reserve role in the away match. Because Teun Koopmeiners suffered a groin injury during the warm-up, Koeman still had a starting place in store for the PSV controller. Schouten ensured a good balance in the first half and managed to speed up the game several times by keeping it simple.

Xavi Simons: 6

The pressure on Simons was high prior to the match against Iceland. After thirteen international matches, he was still waiting for his first goal or assist in the shirt of the Dutch national team. Right on time he scored his very first goal on behalf of the Dutch team. The right leg received the ball on a silver platter from Dumfries halfway through the first half and managed to break the spell. The goal will do Simons good. However, he also found it difficult to leave his mark on the match.

Memphis Depay: 9

After a strong performance against Canada, Memphis showed itself hungry again four days later during the the Dutch's away game. The striker, who will be transfer-free next summer, will be Koeman's first choice at the point of attack. After fifteen minutes of play he scored the first achievement against Iceland with a placed shot towards the top right corner. The number 9 had more opportunities, but always had to shoot on goal from a difficult angle.

By frequently dropping down and occasionally going deep, he was a plague for Iceland's defense. Memphis once again showed its good form in the final phase. First with an assist to substitute Malen's 3-0. The striker was also accurate, but his goal was disallowed due to a handball from Veerman.

Cody Gakpo: 6.5

Gakpo can also count on Koeman's confidence. On Monday evening he played fairly colorless before half time. Once he got into scoring position, but the side netting blocked a goal from the Liverpool attacker. Gakpo also had a great chance to score early in the second half. This time he came across the closing post Hákon Rafn Valdimarsson, who quickly came out of his goal.
