Latest update:

Lisandro Martínez and Victor Lindelöf are both out for at least a month, Manchester United reports via official club channels. Lindelöf suffered a hamstring injury from the match with Brentford (1-1 draw) on Saturday evening, Martínez injured his calf during training.

Lindelöf came off midway through the second half on Saturday with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Martínez, who made his first appearance since early February. Martínez played out the match, but suffered a new injury to his calf during training this week.

For Martínez it is not the first injury since his switch from Ajax to Manchester in the summer of 2022. The Argentinian previously suffered from foot and knee injuries, causing him to miss a total of 43 matches The Red Devils.

These new injuries do not suit Erik ten Hag at all, as the defense is already very thin. Both left-backs, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, are expected to miss the rest of the season with an injury. Raphaël Varane also had to retire halfway through the match against Brentford. The severity of his injury appears not to be too bad.

It is expected that both Lindelöf and Martínez will have to recover for at least a month. This would mean that Ten Hag would only be able to call on the two central defenders again towards the end of the season.

Ten Hag is still in the race for Champions League football with Manchester United, as fifth place in the Premier League may also provide a direct ticket to the billion-dollar ball. The gap with fifth place is currently eight points.

The club from Manchester is also still active in the FA Cup tournament, where the semi-final against Coventry City is scheduled for April 21. The winner will play in the final against the winner of the other semi-final, between Chelsea and Manchester City.
