Latest update:

Kobbie Manioo has been called up for the main squad of the England national team for the first time, the association announced on Tuesday afternoon. The eighteen-year-old Manchester United midfielder was originally in the England Under-21 squad, but Gareth Southgate has decided he wants to have Mainoo available.

The controller is making his final breakthrough at Old Trafford this season under Erik ten Hag. Over the course of the current year, Mainoo received more and more minutes from the Dutch manager and he is now more often a starter than a bencher.

The talented midfielder will not wear the white jersey of England for the first time. He previously played for England Under-19 and England Under-17.

It is somewhat surprising that Mainoo has still been called up for the first English selection. Last Thursday, Southgate announced his final selection and at that time the talent of Manchester United was not among them.

The English association does not waste any words on the question of why Mainoo was called up for the first selection. In total, Southgate now has 26 players at his disposal.

England will play two friendlies in the upcoming international break. Received on Saturday March 23 the Three Lions Brazil, before Southgate's side take on Belgium on Tuesday, March 26.

In the defensive midfielder position, Mainoo will compete with Jordan Henderson (Ajax) and Declan Rice (Arsenal), although Conor Callagher (Chelsea) can also play as number six.
