De Graafschap has narrowly averted loss of points against FC Eindhoven. The game in Doetinchem was heading for a scoreless draw for a long time, so that the Super farmers close pursuer Almere City could have come closer again. Substitute Melvin Platje gave De Graafschap a 1-0 victory with his first goal since his return to the Netherlands.

A thousand cardboard ‘supporters’ sat on De Vijverberg on Sunday. With the campaign ‘Smoel op de Stoel’ these chairs were sold to raise money for cancer research. A thousand fans bought a chair to be able to attend the game between De Graafschap and FC Eindhoven in cardboard form. The players of the Super farmers also entered the field in special shirts, which will be auctioned for charity after the game. After the victory of Almere City, which won 4-1 against Excelsior on Friday, De Graafschap must try to win to lift the lead over the number three of the Kitchen Champion Division to four again.

The first chance of the game, however, was for mid-engine FC Eindhoven, via Dico Jap Tjong. During the game, De Graafschap became stronger, which resulted in opportunities for Ralf Seuntjens and Daryl van Mieghem. Yet FC Eindhoven managed to get the rest relatively easily without a problem. De Graafschap also had the upper hand in the first phase of the second half, but that hardly led to any great opportunities. Van Mieghem saw a shot being blocked with an hour on the clock.

In the meantime, FC Eindhoven came out dangerous in the switch, although a bet by Jasper Dahlhaus was thwarted in time. On behalf of the home team, Jasper van Heertum and Danny Verbeek were given opportunities in the following phase, but they did not really get into trouble for goalkeeper Ruud Swinkels. The closing post was tested ten minutes before time by substitute Melvin Platje, although he was later also flagged back for offside. After Verbeek had missed another chance, Platje gave De Graafschap a victory in injury time. The attacker hired from Bali United completed the only goal of the game at the request of Van Mieghem.
