Ahmed Marcouch, mayor of Arnhem, disapproves of Dusan Tadic’s action after last Sunday’s Vitesse – Ajax (2-2) match. The Serb wanted to give his match shirt to the supporters who had traveled with him, but was stopped by a number of stewards who tried to ensure safety in the stadium. Tadic then reacted furiously and gave one of the stewards a shove. “You stay away from stewards”, Marcouch responds in conversation with the Gelderlander on the incident.

Ajax closed the season last Sunday with a 2-2 draw in Arnhem. When Tadic headed for the branch afterwards, he was stopped by a number of stewards. They wanted to avoid the risk of recurrence with the knowledge of previous disturbances in Arnhem. At the beginning of March, Vitesse’s home game against Sparta Rotterdam was halted due to disturbances in the stands. One of the stewards offered to give Tadic’s match shirt to the Ajax supporters who had traveled with them, but the winger wanted nothing to do with it. The captain of the team from Amsterdam reacted fiercely and gave the steward a push.

Marcouch condemns the action and believes that stewards should be kept away. “Even if your name is Dusan Tadic. They (the stewards, ed.) were afraid that the Ajax supporters would break out”, explains Marcouch. According to the mayor, the steward acted in the right way and was also prepared to bring the competition shirt to the box himself. “The steward just wanted to help.” Ajax was also asked for a response by the Gelderlanderbut a spokesperson for the Amsterdam club thought it was too ‘premature’ to comment on the incident.

“I think it’s a bit bland. There is no one there under the box, where the Ajax supporters are, not even Vitesse supporters. So let that boy throw in the shirt and then it’s done’, was Theo Janssen’s reaction last Sunday Studio Football† The former Vitesse player currently works as a talent coach at the club from Arnhem. In the end, the Tadic competition shirt, together with the shirt of Davy Klaassen, among others, was delivered to the away supporters by Vitesse employees.
