Georginio Wijnaldum would prefer to return to Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, he says MirrorTalk on ESPN. The 32-year-old midfielder, who plays on a rental basis for AS Roma this season, hopes to end his career in South Rotterdam. He indicates to presenter Kenneth Perez that Feyenoord is still the most in his heart. He played for the club from 2004 to 2011.

The Rotterdammer does not have to think long about whether Wijnaldum wants to end his career at Feyenoord or PSV. “Feyenoord. Of course it is always difficult to say which club you will go to, but Feyenoord is just my club.” Wijnaldum played in the youth of both Sparta Rotterdam and Feyenoord. At the age of sixteen he made his debut in De Kuip. In the end, the 86-time international came to 135 official matches for De Stadionclub, in which he scored 25 goals and eleven assists.

In July 2011, Wijnaldum made the switch from Feyenoord to PSV. The Rotterdam club was in heavy weather and could use the transfer fee of five million euros at that time. That same summer, Leroy transferred Fer to FC Twente for a similar amount. Feyenoord supporters charged Fer and Wijnaldum with the transfers at the time, although that situation has now changed. Fer already returned to Feyenoord in 2019, after which he was announced with a banner that read ‘Fergeven me’.

Wijnaldum is forced to watch the World Cup in Qatar from home in the coming month. Normally, the midfielder would belong to the selection of national coach Louis van Gaal, but in August he broke his tibia during a training session with Roma. The Italian club has the option to take over Wijnaldum from Paris Saint-Germain for eight million euros after this season. In Paris, the right leg is still fixed until mid-2024. If Wijnaldum makes the switch to Roma, he will sign until June 2025.
