NAC Breda won 2-1 on Monday evening from FC Den Bosch. The big man on the side of the home side was Sydney van Hooijdonk, who substituted both goals. Before the match, NAC coach Maurice Steijn indicated that Van Hooijdonk is on his way to the exit. The young striker does not have a base place and therefore wants to leave. He doesn’t like a rental and can transfer free in search of a new club.

The game started extremely unlucky for NAC acquisition Mario Bilate. The striker, who was taken over from RKC Waalwijk, had to leave the field with a hamstring injury after only twelve minutes of play. His replacement was Van Hooijdonk, who was to play an important role this evening. Not long after the substitution it was FC Den Bosch that got the lead. A cross from the left flank of Dwayne Green was cleverly worked against the ropes by Jizz Hornkamp. After the hit Maurice Steijn’s team threw off the hesitation and was the boss in front of their own crowd.

Den Bosch made it impossible to play soccer and it was waiting for the equalizer. Mounir El Allouchi got the best chance, but he hit the post. After halftime the game image was unchanged and the visitors had no choice but to stop. For a long time the visitors were unable to keep that up, as it was already two minutes after tea. Van Hooijdonk was in the right spot at a corner kick, and from close by he drew for the equaliser. The goal gave NAC even more confidence and the hunt for the lead was on. The confrontation between the two teams developed into a fierce battle. The annoyance at Den Bosch was great when NAC did not want to play the ball out when Ryan Trotman was injured. It resulted in a riot between Tom Haye and Hornkamp, for which both players received a yellow card.

With twenty minutes left on the clock, NAC got itself into trouble. Dion Malone got the ball while he was on the ground and Den Bosch took advantage of that. Paco van Moorsel was unlocked with a big chance as a result, but he bumped into goalkeeper Nick Olij’s hand. The NAC keeper kept his side on their feet again ten minutes later by tapping a free kick from Hornkamp out of the corner. NAC then insisted and got what it wanted just before time. After a good attack it was Van Hooijdonk who scored the winning goal. The joy was great at NAC and the striker, which prevented the Bredanaars from losing the first points of this season in the Kitchen Champion Division.
