The French national coach Corinne Diacre has been fired, the French federation announced through the official channels. The FFF (Fédération Française de Football) says in the message that the situation between players and national coach has become untenable. Two weeks ago it came out that players couldn’t get along with Diacre and that was reported several times. Those reports have now led to dismissal.

Interim-chairman Philippe Diallo has drawn up a report containing the different points of view of players who have come forward. The board has drawn the conclusion from that report that it makes no sense to continue with Diacre any longer. That is striking, because on Wednesday evening Diacre said that she will stay on as national coach. She thus responded to the ‘slander campaign’ that she said she had to deal with.

It has been a while with the French women’s team. A few months before the start of the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, French star player Wendie Renard announced that she would not be participating. Renard said in a statement that she did not want to come out for her country under ‘the current circumstances’. “I can no longer support the current system, which is far from the requirements at this level,” said the strongholder, who is one of the greatest players in the world with 142 international matches and 34 goals for the French. Diacre’s dismissal may result in Renard’s return.

This year marks the ninth time that the Women’s World Cup will be held. 32 countries are participating for the first time. In 2019 there were 24. The tournament will be held in Australia and New Zealand and will run from Thursday, July 20 to Sunday, August 20. The the Dutch Lionesses are placed in Group E with Portugal, Vietnam and the United States. The Netherlands could only meet France in the final at the earliest.
