Angeliño is waiting for a meeting with Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig. The defender was missing from the title contender’s home game with Borussia Mönchengladbach (3-2 win) on Saturday due to ‘a minor muscle injury’, the club stated via the official Twitter account. The followers’ surprise was great when the former PSV player denied this in a response to the tweet. The moment was eagerly picked up by the media in Germany.

“No muscle injury, I’m fit,” replied Angeliño, who deleted his tweet not much later. However, the Spaniard’s response had already been copied and circulated at that point. Afterwards, Nagelsmann was asked about the reaction of his defender. “That was not intelligent of him,” replied the trainer with a smile on his face. “Of course we will discuss that with him.”

“I have to say that because of such actions I am also very much served by Angeliño. He always wants to play. He thinks it’s terrible to miss one or more matches. ” Nagelsmann explained that Angeliño had not participated as a precaution because an MRI scan had indeed revealed some problems. It is unclear whether the Spaniard can participate in the cup match with VfL Wolfsburg next Wednesday.

Angeliño was definitively taken over from Manchester City earlier this month, which lent the defender to the Bundesliga club twice. The Spaniard’s share in the success of RB Leipzig is large: he came in 31 games in all competitions this season and he was good for 8 goals and 9 assists.

RB Leipzig is again performing excellently this season. Partly due to a series of six victories in the last seven matches, Nagelsmann’s team is in second place, with only two points less than league-leader Bayern Munich. Next Wednesday they will compete with Wolfsburg for a place in the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal. In the Champions League it is a bit more complicated. Those Rote Bullen lost by two defensive blunders the first game against Liverpool (0-2) in the eighth finals.
