Sjaak Swart is done with the criticism that Valentijn Driessen and Mike Verweij, journalists of The Telegraphdeliver on Ajax defender Daley Blind. Mister Ajax thinks it is unjust that the 32-year-old left leg is continuously designated as a dissonant at the Amsterdam club, he says as a called-in guest in the Skiete Willy Podcast from Football International.

Swart thinks it is logical that Ajax as a whole is receiving a lot of criticism this season. “That should also be the case at the top clubs, because you can’t lose five or six times in a row. Then something has to be done.” Nevertheless, the Ajax player sees a pattern when Ajax performs less well. “Then you know what the press is like. It breaks everything. There are two at De Telegraaf. It’s an Amsterdam newspaper, but it’s just not nice that players are attacked personally.”

With this remark, Swart seems to be targeting journalists Driessen and Verweij, without directly naming names. The Telegraph Follow Ajax closely. The 31-time international of the Dutch sees that Blind, in particular, often has to pay for the morning newspaper. “I think that’s really ridiculous.” Swart thinks the decline of the left leg is generally not too bad. “But at some point you all get that something is going to refuse. Blind has had a bit of bad luck with his heart.”

Blind has already played 331 times for Ajax in his career, in which the defender was good for thirteen goals and twenty assists. Swart does not deny that the 94-time international must someday make way for younger alternatives. “They have to discuss that and at some point everyone has to phase out, but they must not tear him down. As if he is getting in the way of Ajax. Stop it, I don’t like that.” Against Rangers (1-3 win), Blind was on the bench for ninety minutes. His replacement Owen Wijndal retired just before half-time and was replaced by Devyne Rensch.
