Daley Sinkgraven let go of a possible offer from Anderlecht on the final day of the transfer period, reports The newspapaer. The Belgian club was in the market to take over the 27-year-old left wing defender from Bayer Leverkusen, but Sinkgraven decided against it at the last minute.

Although Sinkgraven’s perspective on playing minutes at Leverkusen is marginal, the former Ajax player still seems to have a reason to stay. His contract runs until mid-2023, allowing him a potentially lucrative free transfer in the summer. In such a transfer, the player in question often stipulates a higher signing premium than when a transfer fee is involved.

Sinkgraven could extend his expiring contract with Leverkusen, but the chances of that seem slim. The born Assenaar hardly appears in the plans for the second season in a row the Werkself and mainly sits on the bench or stands during club matches. This season, Sinkgraven has made six appearances, four of which as a substitute. In the 177 minutes he played, he provided one assist.

Leverkusen took over Sinkgraven from Ajax in 2019 through the intercession of former trainer Peter Bosz. In the spring of 2021, the latter was fired by Leverkusen. It had direct consequences for Sinkgraven’s perspective, who has not had a permanent base since then. At the left back position, preference is usually given to Piero Hincapie and Mitchel Bakker.
