VfL Wolfsburg booked a victory in the Bundesliga on Tuesday evening. In-house, the team of coach Niko Kovac was 2-0 too strong for Borussia Dortmund. Basic strength Micky van de Ven played a leading role by opening the score in the sixth minute of play. The game was closed in the final phase by Lukas Nmecha. It was the eighth time in a row (all competitions) that the Wölfe remained undefeated.

Terzic had only one change in store compared to the won game against VfL Bochum (3-0). Instead of Giovanni Reyna, Karim Adeyemi was allowed to start again in the right wing position. That means that Donyell Malen could again count on a starting spot: the attacker played on the left wing. Despite last weekend’s 0-3 win over 1. FSV Mainz 05, Kovac found reasons to make two changes. Striker Nmecha had to make way for Jonas Wind; Omar Marmoush was preferred over Patrick Wimmer on the right.

Wolfsburg fired a warning shot in the third minute of play. After an attack from the right, Marmoush had the opportunity to score directly from within the box, but his effort was parried by goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. A few minutes later it did. A corner kick from the right was head extended by Sebastiaan Bornauw, after which Van de Ven was able to nod in complete freedom at the far post. For the remainder of the first half, the game went back and forth, although neither team was able to convert any of the chances into a goal.

Also in the second act the entertainment value was high for the neutral spectators. Malen, who was much involved in Dortmund’s attacking game, had the opportunity to deliver an excellent pass to Youssoufa Moukoko in the 55th minute of play. The latter then headed into the hands of goalkeeper Koen Casteels. Wolfsburg doubled their lead in stoppage time. Substitute Nmecha made the 2-0 from close range and on a pass from Wimmer.
