Sassuolo provided a surprise in the Serie A on Sunday afternoon. After a 1-2 victory on a visit to Juventus, the team of coach Alessio Dionisi also treated AC Milan to a defeat: 1-3. Alessio Romagnoli gave the home team the lead, but a double by Gianluca Scamacca and a goal by Domenico Berardi finally gave Sassuolo the win.
After twenty minutes, the score was opened by the home team, when Romagnoli was allowed to head in a corner kick from Theo Hernández at the near post: 1-0. Milan could not enjoy the lead for long, because three minutes later it was also hit on the other side. Sassuolo came out very quickly after a careless loss of the ball by Tiemoué Bakayoko. Giacomo Raspadori gave in to Scamacca, who hit hard in the top right corner from about 25 meters: 1-1.

After the equalizer, the visitors pushed through through the Italian attacker, who has a history with PSV and PEC Zwolle. A corner was headed away by Hernández, after which the ball fell at the feet of Scamacca. Via Simon Kjaer’s shoe, the ball fell behind a hopeless Mike Maignan: 1-2. After the break, it was Milan that went on the hunt for the equalizer, but coach Stefano Pioli’s team got itself into deeper trouble halfway through the second half. This time it was Franck Kessié who suffered a clumsy loss of ball just before his own penalty area. Matheus Henrique found Domenico Berardi, who tricked Romagnoli and then shot in coolly: 1-3. There was no longer any tension in the match, partly due to a red card for Romagnoli. The defender pulled the emergency brake at Grégoire Defrel and was allowed to push in by referee Gianluca Manganiello.
