Sepp van den Berg does not rule out signing for PSV in the final weeks of the summer transfer period. The 22-year-old Liverpool centre-back emphasises at the same time that he does not want to simply trade Liverpool, especially now that Arne Slot is in charge at Anfield.

“If you want to leave, 20 million pounds (approximately 23 million euros, ed.) is quite a lot,” Van den Berg opened in an interview with The Athletic. “I know crazy things can happen in today's market.”

“Liverpool have put a price tag on me that they think is right. Also because I had a good season last year,” the PSV-linked central defender refers to his usually strong performances in the FSV Mainz 05 shirt.

“My first reaction was that it was quite high!” Van den Berg said with a quip. “Of course, in a way it's a compliment. It means I did well last year.”

“But the other side makes it all a bit more difficult. If Liverpool valued me at only £2m, that wouldn't be nice. But £20m is maybe a bit on the high side,” sighs the Dutchman with a contract at Anfield until mid-2026.

Van den Berg can say little about his immediate future. “Maybe I'll stay, maybe I'll leave. I'm at one of the biggest clubs in the world now. Arne Slot said in a conversation that I had to show myself in the preparation. If I really get a chance, there's a good chance that I'll stay. But the transfer period is still long, so we'll see what happens.”

Last week, club watcher Rik Elfrink of the Eindhoven Daily Newspaper known that PSV continues to push to take Van den Berg from Liverpool. The Eindhoven team will have to be patient, because for now the defender is with the Reds along to a training camp in the United States.

Ahead of Saturday's match against Valencia, coach Peter Bosz indicated that Van den Berg is an 'interesting player', but that there are more defenders who attract interest.

“I think Sepp van den Berg is very good,” analyst Youri Mulder emphasized in front of the camera. Ziggo Sport. “Liverpool wants twenty million euros, but PSV will not pay that. But if you pay fifteen and he comes, then you really have a very good player.”
