Thorgan Hazard is a PSV player, the club announced through the official channels. The 29-year-old attacker comes over from Borussia Dortmund and will play in Eindhoven on a rental basis, without an option to buy. Hazard must (partly) fill the gap left by Cody Gakpo (Liverpool) and Noni Madueke (Chelsea) on the wings.

PSV has been associated with many wingers in recent weeks. Hazard indicated in a conversation with general manager Marcel Brands that he was open to a transfer to the Philips Stadium, with which he brushed off Everton’s interest. The Belgian was not always assured of playing time in Dortmund and came in as a substitute in no less than 15 of the 21 matches he played this season. In Eindhoven, his perspective on minutes seems a lot more favourable.

The 47-time Belgian international will have to compete with Xavi Simons, Anwar El Ghazi, Johan Bakayoko and Sávio. Hazard must offer Ruud van Nistelrooij more options on the sides. PSV had a lot of work to do during the busy winter period. Gakpo, Madueke and Philipp Max (Eintracht Frankfurt), among others, have closed the Eindhoven door behind them, while Patrick van Aanholt also came over from Galatasaray on deadline day.

Hazard has been on PSV’s scouting lists since 2014. However, after a successful rental period at Borussia Mönchengladbach, the then Chelsea player opted for a career continuation at the fohlen. There, Hazard earned a move to Dortmund four years later, which paid no less than 25.5 million euros. Now he continues his career in Eindhoven, to review his situation in the Signal Iduna Park next summer. Bee BVB Hazard is still fixed until mid-2024.
