The problems with the drifting Schalke 04 are piling up. A large part of the group of players does not want to continue with Christian Gross, according to various German media. Various players have even urged the club management to dismiss the head coach. Gross is accused, among other things, of being tactically weak and incorrectly pronouncing or switching names of players. The board of the Bundesliga last year has not heeded the remarkable request.

The 57-year-old Swiss trainer has only been Schalke’s head coach since the beginning of this calendar year, after he took over from interim trainer Huub Stevens. Under Gross’s leadership, the results have not improved. Schalke is stiff at the bottom of the Bundesliga with 9 points from 22 games. The club from Gelsenkirchen is heading for relegation, because the rear tooth in the safe fifteenth place is nine points. With twelve games to go, the need is high. The away match against VfB Stuttgart is scheduled for this afternoon at 3.30 pm.

Technical director Jochen Schneider did not agree with the request of the players and supports the trainer for the time being. However, according to German media, given the developments it is a matter of time before Gross is still dismissed. The players are dissatisfied with him, also because of his training methods. In addition, the role of physiotherapist Werner Leuthard, who is held jointly responsible by the players for the flooded sick bay, is critically examined. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, among others, has been injured for weeks and has only played ten minutes since his return.
