Pelle Clement signed for one season at RKC Waalwijk on Friday afternoon, the club reports via the official channels. The 26-year-old midfielder ran out of his contract with PEC Zwolle last summer, where he played the past three seasons. Clement is not yet eligible to play this weekend and will join the selection of RKC from Sunday.

General manager Frank van Mosselveld is very happy with the arrival of Clement, who is already the ninth acquisition for the Waalwijkers this summer.” With Pelle we add an attacking midfielder and thus strengthen the balance in our selection. We are happy that Pelle has chosen us and look forward to a successful collaboration.” The Brabant club previously strengthened itself with well-known names such as Florian Jozefzoon and Zakaria Bakkali.

Clement trained with Ryan Babel at Jong Ajax this summer to keep his condition up. The midfielder has a good relationship with Jong Ajax coach John Heitinga, with whom he previously worked in the youth of the Amsterdam team. In the end, Clement played four official matches in Ajax’s main squad, in which he managed to score three times. Clement scored two goals in a cup match against Kozak Boys (6-1 win), and managed to score once in a cup match against SC Cambuur.

RKC will be the fourth club where Clement is under contract. After having played an important role in Young Ajax for two seasons in a row, Reading took him over. Jaap Stam, then coach of the English club, was the brain behind that transfer. At the second level of England, however, Clement did not become a great success. After 29 official games, in which he provided two assists, he left for PEC. In Zwolle, Clement played 87 official games in the past three seasons, in which he scored four times and provided eleven assists.
