Canada convincingly beat Panama on Thursday night. The team of national coach John Herdman, with Remko Bicentini at his side as right hand, won 4-1. Alphonso Davies provided the most striking moment of the match with an impressive sprint that led to a goal. The well-known rapper Drake, born in Canada, was also impressed and immediately sent the Bayern Munich fullback a message afterwards.

The game was over an hour old when Panama defender Sam Adekugbe wanted the ball to run over the sideline. He didn’t realize Davies was running at full speed. The Bayern player was just in time to take the ball behind his standing leg. He stormed into the penalty area, cut his opponent out and scored in the short corner. With goals from Tajon Buchanan and Jonathan David, Canada won with convincing numbers and comes to ten points from six games. Canada is in third place, a place that entitles you to a World Cup ticket at the end of the qualifying campaign.

Davies’ remarkable goal was the subject of discussion afterwards. Still, the Canadian international got attention in a different way. National coach Herdman revealed that Davies had received a message from Drake. The world famous rapper was impressed and had a request. “Alphonso just got a text from Drake. He would like to meet the selection,” said Herdman. It is not yet known whether a meeting between the national team and Drake will take place.
